Flyagra....Anybody ever used it?

Postby Cowbouy on Sat Sep 01, 2007 8:41 am

It's a floatant that is a spoof off of viagra. The box says "keep it up longer with flyagra". I thought it was just a little gimmick, but I tried using this after a buddy said it was the best he had used.. I thought it was crap!! Anybody else ever heard of it or used it?

I think the mail problem with floatant in general is people use too much and they use it after a fly has gotten wet. When I do use floatant I rub a small drop between my fingers and apply it lightly to a fresh fly after tying it on. After that I just rely on false casting to dry the fly and after catching a fish I pinch it firmly with my shirt to draw out the moisture. I use loon aquel because I like the consistency of it through all seasons.

like scottyp said you MUST put floatant on before your fly is drenched otherwise it wont help at all. As for flyagra i've never tried it but i also like loons aquel.

Flyagra is the best! A buddy of mine uses it exclusively and loves the way it keeps his hoppers on top? Have you guys ever heard of a guy that swallowed a viagra too slow and had a stiff neck for a week?

I have never tried this, but would it work to spray Scotchguard on a fly before you used it and waterproof it in a more permanent fashion?

Good theory on the scotch gaurd- didn't work very well though and neither did some other liquid that was meant for exactly that. Sure it worked for awhile but not for very long. Stick with a good floatant, be it a dry or a paste and apply in properly.

Im a Gink guy if Im buying out of the store I've try Loons years ago and didnt like it that much Gink works better but when it gets cold its a bugger.
I've use bees wax mix I make for myself. For the last few of years now and it works good and its about the same in all weather conditions. plus I use it just like chap stick and lotion.

Sorry for the bad joke. It's something I heard on a CD once. I'm not creative enough to come up with this stuff on my own (hence the name). I read somewhere that if you mix floatant with WD-40 it helps the floatant dray faster on the fly and helps it float better. I have also heard that this is illegal in Utah and I have never tried it. Seems pretty unenvironmental to me. Has anyone else heard about this method or tried it?

I'm interested in some feedback on the WD-40 question. It must be pretty important is somethingcreative is staying up this late to ask that question! Really though, it is something that i would like to try, but I don't want to do anything that is illegal or unethical..

I think the only WD40 that belongs on the end of a leader is the nymph pattern of the same name. Reason being is that WD40 is a known fish attractant not to mention a pollutant. Might as well dip your flies in smelly jelly or tip 'em with a piece of 'garden hackle' (aka crawler piece).

WD 40 would make your Gink or Loons a little more fluid or liquidty. ( is that a word ) If you make your own out of the womens facial cream ( Abolene) you also add a little lighter fluid to it for that purpose and also to keep it from turning into cake when it gets cold. I would think that since WD40 is a petro product it would have the same effect to your floatant. And the Abolene deal is a good floatant- I think the last time I did it refilling a Ginks bottle cost about $1.75 or a little less.

WD40 would be illegal in any waters where it is artificial fly and lure only, because since it is a trout attractant it is classified in the same group as baits (in the proc it talks about plastics that have been chemically treated with attractants as being baits). Besides that it should be legal in other waters, although the other posters are right, it does create an oil slick where you cast.

Interesting that WD-40 is an attractant. Just incase there is any question, I have never used the stuff and did't plan on trying it. Just something I read or heard somewhere.

Liquid float (I like the loon as well) before the fly touches the water. I pick up and dry my fly every 10 casts or so. Once it's dried on my shirt, a little powder float to keep it high and dry. Frog's Fanny is the best I've found.
