U.S. Currency

Does anyone else think that our money should reflect some of the other great leaders we've had in the United States? I remember hearing for a little while after Reagan's death that it was possible he may be portrayed on our currency. It just seems to me like it would be in order to honor some other great Americans that have been neglected. Washington and Lincoln are probably the two greatest Presidents we've had, but do we really need them double-represented? The same could be said for Jefferson, even though the $2 bill is hardly in distribution. Hamilton and Franklin are on our bills, even though neither has been President although they are important figures in history so I don't dispute those two. Grant is on the $50 even though he is considered one of the least popular President's of all time. Why isn't Theodore Roosevelt represented, or James Madison (he was on the no longer produced and virtually unknown $5000 bill)? What about other influential or important Americans like John Hancock, Paul Revere, Lewis & Clark, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, MLK, to name a few?

Lewis and Clark had the whole series of nickles. Sacajewea was on the dollar coin. Susan B. Anthony too. The new series of dollar coins will each feature a different president every year. At least we are putting Americans on the money - Canada still puts the royal family on theirs! Have to love America Jr.

The L&C think was on the back of a nickel though wasn't it?

My main point is that isn't it time to retire some of the coins and bills, and honor some other people too? I'd love to see Grant off the money and have Teddy and Reagan added somewhere.

Canada really does need to break free of the apron strings. Yeah, there are benefits for them being a part of the Commonwealth, but do you really have to put British crapola on your money?
